Slowdown Friday: 11 Inspiring Quotes for Your Collection

J0402458
I've read that collecting things makes for a great hobby.  The only problem is that every thing you collect takes up space which is why I've chosen to collect small things.  Very small.

I collect quotes and am always on the lookout for a good one liner or book excerpt.  I keep a list in my Palm Treo and try to keep fresh when it comes to memorizing great quotes and even Scripture quotes.  Here are eleven great quotes that encourage us to slow down and savor the things that matter most:

Slow down and enjoy life.  It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast- you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.  Eddie Cantor

It gets to the point where you're hot, you're hot, and when you're not, you're not.  It's so true.  I have to slow down soon.  Leonardo DiCaprio

The ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival.
Aristotle

What we plant in the soil of contemplation, we shall reap in the harvest of action.

Meister Eckhart

I think a lot of contemplation happens in bathtubs.
It does for me. Nothing like a hot bath to ease the tension and think
about what's going to happen next.

Sarah McLachlan

Ideas are holy things.  Steve Sjogren

If you get too wrapped up in all of the stuff coming at you, you lose your ability to respond appropriately and effectively.
David Allen

Anybody can observe the Sabbath, but making it holy surely takes the rest of the week.

Alice Walker

All your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals.  And the first job each morning consists simply in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in.  C.S. Lewis

The more we simplify our material life, the more time we have to live.   T. Alexander Anderson

I have learned to pay attention to right now.  Julia Cameron

A Simple Way to Collect Great Quotes

  1. Check your glasses: be on the lookout for great quotes through reading or listening to audio books or even music.  Dog-ear pages of books as you read them.  Rip out magazine pages and put them on the fridge.

  2. Use your hands: collect your quotes in your PDA, Planner or via some kind of online system like Tumblr or Vitalist

  3. Make it portable: take your quotes with you so that you can access them at any time.

  4. Make it memorable: begin to memorize one quote a week.  How many people do you know who can rattle off 30-4-50 quotes of anything?

  5. Display with pride: does your office or kitchen need some great art?  Print out your quote or find it online, then frame and display with pride.
